Qld: Surf lifesavers save boogie board rider

BRISBANE, Jan 15 AAP - Surf lifesavers rescued a boogie boarder who was swept morethan 1.5km off the Gold Coast today.
Lifesavers found the exhausted 15-year-old just after 9am (AEST) after he had beenin the water for between 30 and 45 minutes.
One of his rescuers Bill Gardyne said the boogie board rider had been very fortunate.
"There are strong currents present in the seaway and it's relatively easy for swimmersand inexperienced board riders to be quickly swept out to sea," he said.
