NSW: NSW Liberal unveils new state executive

The New South Wales Liberal Party has taken the first major steps in its reform process
with the announcement of a new state executive.

The vote for the 21-member team is seen by insiders as a chance for the party to make
a fresh start in rebuilding its dwindling support base in the state.

Party stalwart CHRIS MCDIVEN was declared party president.

Barrister, ALEX HOWEN, was voted in as the urban vice-president while Newcastle businessman
GREG HANSEN took on the position of country vice-president.

The executive has outlined its focus on ensuring the re-election of the federal Liberal
government and building the party's support base in the state.

The announcement comes a little over a year since control of the division was seized
by a federal-led administrative committee in a bid to temper factional brawling and address
its financial difficulties.

The division faced debts of over $3 million when former federal Liberal Party president
TONY STALEY took over its reins in November last year.
