Qld: Post-mortem may hold murder clues
EDS: Reissuing to clarify lead sentence
By Steve Gray
BRISBANE, Aug 19 AAP - A post-mortem examination will be held on the body of an 82-year-old
man found dead after a brutal attack at his Mt Isa home on Monday.
The man's 71-year-old wife was found with severe head injuries and remains in a critical
condition in Mt Isa Base Hospital.
More forensic specialists were flown from Brisbane overnight to assist the 30 police
officers already on the investigation, said Inspector Paul Biggin.
"A post-mortem will be held today, which hopefully will then lead us in a certain direction,"
he said.
Inspector Biggin said investigators will continue to doorknock the north-west Queensland
city of about 20,000 and re-interview people.
"It's down to just good old-fashioned police work at the moment," he said.
Inspector Biggin denied media reports the body and the injured woman had lain in the
house for some days before being found.
He said the couple's family were "extremely upset and traumatised" by the incident.
The couple's names have not been officially released.
