Fed: Showdown looming on broadband funding

The federal government and opposition are heading for another showdown in the Senate
.. this time over broadband funding.

Labor's furious after the coalition won an amendment in the upper house to prevent
the government using money from the Communications Fund to subsidise the building of its
national broadband network.

Government frontbencher NICK SHERRY says the amendment's irresponsible and will have
severe ramifications for the NBN.

The government's almost certain to block the change in the lower house .. meaning another
Senate showdown looms.
